Hi! My name is Stella, and I am currently 25 living in Munich, Germany with my husband and my 4 month old daughter.
I have been living here for a year and a half, and the one thing about this country that has made the biggest impact on me has been the food. I should mention that at one point while living in Mississippi, I was eating out three times a day. Not only was I spending way too much money on food, but my weight got up to around 270 pounds. I met my husband after I had lost 50 of those pounds by eating portion controlled convenience foods (cereal, popcorn, frozen dinners, etc).
Now that I’m back to that weight again after having a baby, my goal now is to get to a healthy weight the German way: through wholesome food cooked from scratch. In Germany, you simply can’t get most of the American junk food that I use to crave. And the convenience food that does exist just doesn’t taste as good! (I’m looking at you German frozen pizza!) But of course this is probably because of the EU’s strict food laws, so I can’t complain that much. And although I complained PLENTY about the lack of Taco Bell and Funyuns (my husband once surprised me with a giant box of Funyuns for a present!), living here has completely changed my perception of food and cooking. Germans don’t eat out nearly as often, and the most popular grocery stores are very small and only carry certain goods. While the shopping trips are quicker, there is a lot of work and creativity that has to go into weekly meal planning. So the vast majority of my recipes are really quick with simple ingredients, because I’m lazy, hungry, and have a four month old permanently attatched to my hip!
I am writing this blog as a food journal of easy, delicious recipes that anyone can cook. They may not always be healthy or low calorie recipes, but they will always have very few ingredients and an exact calorie count. I want to find a balance between being healthy and feeling satisfied, and I think this blog will help me tremendously in finding that balance. If there are any mistakes on the blog or questions, please feel free to contact me. Any improvements on the recipes can only be a good thing! Have a nice day!
