Crack Slaw

I came across a version of this recipe when I was doing a low carb diet and fell in love with it. You seriously don’t have to be on any diet to enjoy this, it’s that good. Which is why the picture attached looks like I’m eating it for breakfast, because I did. What are you, the breakfast police? All the chopping is a bit of work, but if you have a mandoline slicer it shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. Enjoy!


  • 500 grams hamburger meat (a pound)
  • 1 onion (95 grams)
  • 1 zucchini (200 grams)
  • 1 cup shredded carrot (80 grams)
  • 1 small head of cabbage (425 grams)
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Sambal Chili Paste



Brown meat and onions in a pan, no oil need if using fatty meat, but you can use minced chicken or turkey if you want to save some calories. Chuck everything else in the pan with a big pinch of salt once the meat is cooked and simmer until cabbage is soft. Should take less than half an hour from start to finish.


Tip: If you don’t know what Sambal Chili Paste is, I suggest you buy some because it’s delicious, but if you can’t be bothered, just use Sriracha.
